Lineage
Third-generation optometrist

Dr. Brothers is a third-generation optometrist. He graduated from the University of Missouri–St. Louis College of Optometry in 2019 and returned to his family's practice in Joplin, Missouri, where he built a specialty focus in ocular aesthetics and advanced dry eye - plate-rich plasma, intense pulsed light, low-level light therapy and radiofrequency, delivered to real patients on a real clinic schedule.

In 2021 he began consulting for fellow optometrists and ophthalmologists on the same question he had worked through in his own chairs: not whether a new device is interesting, but which patients in an existing patient base are candidates, what the biological mechanism supports its use, and how to document outcomes credibly enough for the service line to survive its first year.

That is the lens for everything taught here. Photobiomodulation for intermediate dry AMD and geographic atrophy, amblyopia treatment past the traditional critical period, red light therapy for myopia control, IPL and RF for evaporative dry eye and meibomian gland disease - and the practice-side decisions, from code 0936T billing to the cash-pay conversation, that turn an emerging modality into durable patient care.

Each session is deliberately conversational. Doctors bring cases, the group works through staging and sequencing, and the recording stays available to everyone who was in the room - which is what this library preserves.

Areas of clinical focus

Photobiomodulation for the retina

Intermediate dry AMD and geographic atrophy, taught from recently published trial evidence and Dr. Brothers' own longitudinal case imagery - including drusen resolution without underlying atrophy.

Amblyopia and myopia control

Light therapy beyond the traditional critical period for amblyopia, and red light therapy for progressive myopia, with acuity, refraction, axial length and retinal function used to evaluate change.

Advanced dry eye and lid disease

IPL and RF for meibomian gland disease and ocular rosacea, with meibography or meibomian gland imaging used to show gland structure and photobiomodulation reaching tissue beyond a limited IPL field.

Reimbursement and the practice side

Billing under code 0936T against the published trial criteria, the cash-pay conversation, treatment cadence, and documentation. How technician-led treatment delivery, a consistent sequence, grouped appointments and priority for long-term maintenance patients fit around the doctor's baseline and reassessment decisions.

Live teaching, on your schedule

Live sessions scheduled around the demands of running a practice, built around real cases rather than slide decks, with the recording archived for everyone who attended.

The person behind the institute

Rooted in family practice. Built for independent doctors.

Dr. Brothers returned to his family's practice in Joplin, Missouri. That owner-operator perspective shapes every discussion: therapies must hold up clinically, operationally and in the patient conversation.
