Education

What you will be able to do in your clinic

The training connects the biological mechanisms of photobiomodulation and other energy-based therapies to patient selection, objective testing and practical clinical decisions.

The light therapies

Each wavelength reaches a different depth

Light therapies use different wavelengths to target specific tissue layers and concerns. The color of the light determines how far it travels and what it can influence.

Blue light

Surface tissue

Targets P. acnes bacteria, breaks the acne cycle, soothes skin and controls oil production.

Green light

Surface tissue

Vascular effects improve blood flow and circulation, stabilize salt and ions and support better cell signalling.

Yellow light

Soft tissue

Reduces redness and flushing; helpful for rosacea and sunburn recovery.

Red light

Soft tissue

Improves plumpness and radiance; reduces fine lines, wrinkles and inflammation.

Pink light

Surface + soft

Fights free radicals, reduces inflammation, improves circulation and targets acne and blemishes.

Infrared

Deep tissue

Boosts collagen production, accelerates metabolism, tightens tone and reduces pore size.

What is happening in the eye

Three energy sources, three different tissue interactions

The clinical response begins with the tissue target. LLLT works through cellular light absorption, IPL addresses vascular and inflammatory drivers, and RF creates controlled warmth in periocular tissue.

01

Select and stage the right patients

Know who is a candidate, what to document at baseline, and when therapy is not the answer.

02

Understand why the therapy may work

Connect wavelength and tissue target to mitochondrial function, oxidative stress, inflammatory signaling and measurable response.

03

Have the cash pay conversation well

Present the therapy and the price clearly so patients can decide without pressure or anxiety.

04

Build it into the practice

Staffing, scheduling and the doctor and technician roles that keep the plan moving through the clinic.

Clinical and practice applications

The teaching connects biological mechanisms and evidence to the patient, objective testing and clinic decisions doctors make in practice.

01

A longitudinal dry AMD case

A patient followed from December 12, 2024 through eighteen months of acuity and imaging change. Both eyes reached 20/20 by six months, one drusen cluster had resolved, and later imaging showed continued central and paramacular clearing.

02

Full-face treatment planning

Why Dr. Brothers extends IPL beyond a limited under-eye field when rosacea-associated vessels continue across the cheeks and jawline, considering the dry-eye and aesthetic effects together.

03

Sleep, environment and lifestyle

How sleep quality, fans, CPAP, screen use before bed, sleep masks, eye drops and diet can influence dry-eye symptoms or how well treatment gains are sustained.

04

Objective testing

How OCT, drusen assessment, best-corrected acuity, contrast sensitivity, visual field or VEP measures, axial length, multifocal ERG and meibography can support baseline decisions and follow-up. Meibography is also described as meibomian gland imaging.

05

Staff and scheduling

How technician-led treatment delivery, a consistent sequence, grouped appointments and priority for long-term maintenance patients fit around the doctor's baseline and reassessment decisions.

Areas of practice

Training groups into these areas, so you can start where your practice needs it most.

Part 1: Foundations and mechanism

How photobiomodulation works, the light itself, and the cellular mechanism Dr. Brothers builds every protocol on.

Part 2: Dry AMD, evidence and protocol

The research base for dry AMD, geographic atrophy, the treatment protocol and cycle, and a case from the clinic.

Part 3: Ocular surface and adnexa

Dry eye protocols, IPL and radiofrequency, the full face approach, gland disease, skin, lid conditions and the lifestyle factors behind them.

Part 4: Amblyopia, myopia control and objective testing

Amblyopia treatment and outcomes across ages, myopia control, and the testing used to document change.

Part 5: Putting it into the practice

The cash pay conversation and pricing, staffing and scheduling, billing and reimbursement, precautions and patient selection.
